I am a final-year Ph.D. student in Societal Computing at Carnegie Mellon University, where I am fortunate to be advised by Prof. Yuvraj Agarwal and closely collaborate with Prof. Chris Harrison, Prof. Mayank Goel, and Prof. Anind K. Dey.
My research interests lie at the intersection of systems, applied artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), the Internet of Things (IoT), and health domains. Specifically, I specialize in building large-scale, deployable sensing systems for smart environments with a primary goal to develop secure, privacy-focused reliable software and systems. My work has led to the establishment of a first-of-its-kind IoT sensor network testbed, comprising over 300 multimodal sensor nodes, through the deployment of the Mites system in the newly constructed CMU TCS building. Along these lines, my current projects include:
- Building a large-scale ubiquitous sensing infrastructure for real-world at-scale sensor deployments to study new applications, privacy implications and devise new privacy abstractions.
- Building user-friendly machine learning platforms for IoT applications specifically, developing new techniques for data featurization, learning events, and developing foundation machine learning models for human activity recognition and various health and well-being applications.
If any of this resonates with you, I'd love to hear from you. The best way to reach me is sudershan [at] cmu.edu. Feel free to reach out if you have questions about my work or want to chat!
